Pentecost is the celebration of the birthday of the Catholic Church. In the Eastern Catholic Church, this is the sign of new life; when the Holy Spirit came to the Virgin Mary and the Apostles. For this reason in the Eastern Catholic Church of the Italo-Greeks we use and bless green lemon leaves to express the new life the Holy Spirit gave. These are  blessed before the Divine Liturgy and thrown in the air so that they land on the floor so that the faithful can gather them and take them home to place on their Icon Cornor for prayer guided by the Holy Spirit.
