SUNDAY OF THE FATHERS OF THE 7th ECUMENICAL COUNCIL

MYSTERY OF REPENTANCE

CONFESSION is offered before and after all services, accept Saturdays (Confession is offered at 4:30pm and after service), and Sundays (where Confession is offered starting 10:00am, and 2:00pm). To set up an alternative time for Confession or spiritual direction, please email Fr. Nathan at fradams@ephx.org.

Saturday, October 14th

5:00pm Vesperal-Liturgy Sunday of the Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council

Intention: Dmytro Drechsler+


Saint of the day: 14th Our Venerable Mother Paraskevia, child of peasant parents of the city of Callicratia. Her relics were translated to Trapesont, a city in Bulgaria, A.D. 1201. — SS. Nazarius, Gervase, Protase, and Celsus, Martyrs. St. Nazarius’ father was a heathen, his mother, Perpetua, a Christian, probably a disciple of St. Peter. At Milan, with his companion, Celsus, he was beheaded under Emperor Nero about A.D. 60. Gervase and Portase were brothers, sons of the St. Vitalis, Martyr. Their relics repose at Milan in the Bmbrosian Bascilica.

Saint of the day: 15th Our Venerable Father, Euthymius, the New. — St. Lucian, Venerable Martyr, Presbyter of greater Antioch, was put to death for the Faith at Nicomedia in Asia Minor by order of Emperors Maximian and Galerius, buried at Helenopolis in Bithynia.



Monday, October 16th

6:00am Jesus Prayer


Saint of the day: 16th – St. Longinus, the Centurion, is credited by tradition to have been the one who pierced the side of Our Lord hanging on the Cross (John 19:34). Converted to Christianity, he was put to death in Cappadocia. His body is venerated in the Church of St. Augustine in Rome.



Tuesday, October 17th

No Service


Saint of the day: 17th – St. Hosea, Prophet, a descendant of Isachar, lived in the 8th Century B.C. St. Andrew of Crete, Venerable-Martyr opposed the Iconoclasts and reproached the Emperor Constantine for his impiety. The enraged monarch ordered him to be seized and tortured, from which he died A.D. 761.

Saint of the day: 18th – St. Luke, Apostle and Evangelist, was a physician of Antioch in Syria, converted to Christianity, became the fellow-worker of St. Paul. He is the inspired writer of the Third Gospel and of the Acts of the Apostles, as revealed to the Prophet Ezechiel in the vision on a calf, six centuries B.C.



Thursday, October 19th

No Service


Saint of the day: 19th - St. Joel, Prophet was of the Tribe of Ruben in the 8th century B.C. — St. Varus, Martyr, a Roman soldier, who, while guarding some condemned monks in prison for their Faith, on seeing one of theme expire in his dungeon, took his place and shared the torture and cruel death of the others A.D. 307. — St. Sadoth, Priest-Martyr, a Bishop in Persia, who, with 128 of his fellow Christians, was put to death A.D. 345, by King Sapor near Ctesiphon.



Friday, October 20th

No service


Saint of the day: 20th – St. Artemis, Great Martyr, a veteran officer in high command was charged with breaking down the statue of an idol. After cruel torture, he was beheaded, A.D. 363, Apostate, Emperor Julian.



Saturday, October 21st

Saint of the day: 1st - SS. Cosmas and Damian, Wonderworkers,

Unmercenary Physicians, Martyrs. They were twins.

Arabs by birth and lived in Cilicia. They are highly

esteemed in the Eastern church.

Saint of the day: 2nd - Deposition of the Venerable Robe of the Mother

of God, in the church of Blachernae at Constantinople

Our Holy Father, Juvenal, who, after St. Cyril, was the

third Patriarch of Jerusalem, died A.D. 454, during the

reign of Marcian and Pulcheria, Emperors.

AKATHIST OF THE HOLY THEOTOKOS will be prayed at 10:00am for all Sundays of October before the Divine Liturgy.


ANNOUNCEMENTS:

EPARCHIAL PRIEST MEDICAL INSURANCE ASSISTANCE SPECIAL COLLECTION - Our Eparchy will once again take a special collection to help subsidize the medical insurance premiums of our pastors. Our parish pays a large portion of the premium for our priest while the Eparchy picks up the difference.  Once again, we ask your generous assistance as we take up this special collection this weekend. Your continued generosity is a blessing both for our Eparchy and her priests who serve you in so many ways!  God bless your continued support and generosity.
