     SAINTS OF THE DAY


20th - Our venerable father, Theodore, surnamed “Trichinas” from the rough habit of sackcloth which he wore, was a holy hermit near Constantinople who died not later than A.D. 320.


21st - St. Januarius, Bishop-Martyr, and SS. Proculus Sosius and Faustus, Deacons; St. Desiderius. Lector, SS. Eutyches and Akutionus. These were martyred in the reign of Maximian and Gallerius, Emperors, by the persecutor Timothy A.D. 305. St. Theodore from Pergia, suffered death A.D. 142, under the Emperor Antonius Pius.


22nd - Our venerable father, Theodore, “Sykiot,” died A.D. 541 in the reign of Justinian, Emperor. SS. Nathanael, Luke and Clement, Apostles. Venerable, Vitalius, leaving his cell, went to Alexandria, and enduring many indignities from the men, brought many infamous women to do penance. He died A.D. 615 in the reign of Heraclius, Emperor.


23rd - Feast of St. George, the glorious Great-Martyr and wonderworker. He refused to sacrifice to the gods, was tortured and beheaded at Nicomedia in Asia Minor. St. Alexandra, martyr, wife of Emperor Diocletian. Both George and Alexandra were martyred in the reign of Diocletian, about A.D. 296. 


24th - St. Sabbas, Martyr and a Christian officer in the army of the Emperor Aurelian, suffered death for the faith in Rome A.D. 272.


25th - St. Mark, Apostle and Evangelist, a disciple and companion of St. Peter, Apostle, wrote the Second Gospel under St. Peter’s direction. He founded the great church of Alexandria and there died I prison A.D. 68 in the days of Nero, Emperor. 


26th - St. Basil, Priest-Martyr, Bishop of Amasea in Pontus (Asia Minor), was casted into the sea by the order of the Emperor Licinius A.D. 319. Venerable virgin, Graphyra, a Christian handmaid of Constantia, wife of the Emperor Licinius, fled to escape the unlawful attentions of her mater, was pursued, captured and sentenced to death A.D. 324.


27th - St. Simeon, Priest-Martyr, son of Cleopas and kinsman of our Lord, was Bishop of Jerusalem, governed that church for over forty years, lived over one hundred years and was crucified in the reign of Emperor Trajan A.D. 112. Venerable father, Stephen, Bishop of Vladimir.

THE HOLY GREAT MARTYR GEORGE Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, April 23rd at 8:00am with Festal Matins beginning at 7:00am.


2024 EPARCHIAL APPEAL has begun. Each registered family is asked to participate to help us reach our financial goal of $26,259.92 and also our goal of 100% participation. Thank you to the 11 families who have submitted their pledge. There are pledge forms in the back of the church.


CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL Special Collection will be taken April 27/28, 2024. This year we received information explaining this Appeal and a special envelope for donations which have been put into your mailbox.

ByzanTEEN Rally 2024 - On January 20th, registration for the ByzanTEEN Rally opens. It will be at the University of San Diego from June 27-30. This dynamic gathering of the future of our Church will include 3 keynote speakers (Fr. Chris Zugger, Mother Iliana, and Trent Horn), prayer, social and sport activities, bringing Byzantine Catholic Teens across the country together to walk on the waters of faith in Christ. EDUCATION


MYSTAGOGIA: CATECHESIS FOR THE ENLIGHTENED Adult education continues through continual faith formation:  Starting again on Sunday, April 28th at 1:00pm, join us for advanced studies in our spiritual life, Liturgy, theology, patristics and more. For the classes, you can purchase The Divine Liturgy: A Commentary in the Light of the Fathers from our bookstore. 


CATECHESIS FOR THE CATECHUMENATE begins Sunday, April 28th at 8:30am. Our catechumens will be prepared for baptism through this one-year program. Anyone who wants to learn more or refresh their Byzantine faith is welcome to attend. For the class, download the Ascension app on your phone or computer. See the flyers at the back of the church for more information on the resources you will need.

        

FACEBOOK GROUP - If you are on Facebook, please join Fr. Nathan’s “Eastern Catholic Daily Catechesis Group”: The group features daily Bible Readings, the Saints of the Day, and a Daily Icon. The group also offers educational opportunities in the Eastern Tradition.
