SAINTS OF THE DAY
11th – The Hoy and equal to the Apostles. Doctors of the Slavs, our holy fathers, Cyril and Methodius. These were two bothers, born in Thessalonica in the first half of the ninth century. The holy priest-martyr Mocius. Our Venerable Father and Confessor Basil Hopko, Defender of the faith, suffered under the repressive regime of the Communist government.
12th - Our Holy father, Epiphanius, Barhop in Cyprus, and Germanus, Patriarch of Constantinople, Epiphanius was Bishop in Salamis, an intimate friend of St. Hilarion and St. Jerome, and counselor to Pope St. Damasus. He was “a pillar of Faith” against the Arians, and died at an advanced age in A.D. 403. Germanus was banished and died in exile A.D. 733, in the reign of Leo III, the Isaurian.
13th - St. Glyceria, Martyr, suffered for the Faith in Trajanopolis in Greene, by being thrown to the wild beasts in the Amphitheatre after cruel torments about A.D. 141. St. Alexander, Martyr on the Island of Cyprus, martyred for the Faith A.D. 298.
14th - St. Isidore, Martyr on the island of Chios, was put to death A.D. 250 under the reign of Decius Emperor.
15th - Our venerable father Pachomius the Great. Egyptian by birth, soldier by profession, convert to Christianity, received tonsure from the hermit Palaemon, founded monasteries grouped Religious Houses subject to one Rule under the jurisdiction of a Head Hegumen-Abbot. He died AD. 438. Isaiah, Bishop – wonderworker of Rostov.
16th - Our venerable father, Theodore, disciple of St. Pachomius, Hegumen-Abbot of Taberna, died A.D. 367 in the reign of Valentinian, Emperor. SS. Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia, Martyrs. Vitus, a child with his nurse Crescentia and her husband Modestus, by whom he was instructed in the Christian Faith, was driven from home by his inhuman parents. They suffered martyrdom together about A.D. 302 under Diocletian, Emperor.
17th - St. Andronicus, Apostle, and other with him. St. Junia.
18th - St. Theodotus of Ancyra in Galatia (Asia Minor), grain dealer by trade, seeking to recover the bodies of holy women martyrs from quicksand, was himself made to share the same fate n the reign of Diocletian. A.D. 304. SS. Petrus, Dennis, Andreas, Paul, Christina, Heracleus, Paulinus and Venedimus, Martyrs. SS. Seven Virgins; Alexandra, Thekusa, Claudia, Falina, Evphrasia, Matrona and Julia.

2024 EPARCHIAL APPEAL - Each registered family is asked to participate and help us reach our financial goal of $18,505.00 and also our goal of 100% participation. Currently, with 20 families, we have raised $7,474.20 or 41.41%. There are pledge forms at the back of the church. Thank you!

ByzanTEEN Rally 2024 - On January 20th, registration for the ByzanTEEN Rally opens. It will be at the University of San Diego from June 27-30. This dynamic gathering of the future of our Church will include 3 keynote speakers (Fr. Chris Zugger, Mother Iliana, and Trent Horn), prayer, social and sport activities, bringing Byzantine Catholic Teens across the country together to walk on the waters of faith in Christ. SUNDAY OF THE FATHERS AT THE FIRST NICEAN COUNCIL – Lord our Savior, you call us to unity with yourself and with our brothers and sisters. Give to your Church men and women who serve you in a life of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, so that we may be united as you brought the truth to the Fathers at the First Nicean Council. Strengthen the Church with an increase of faithful priests, deacons, monks and nuns, we pray you hear and have mercy.
CATECHESIS FOR THE CATECHUMENATE is held every Sunday at 8:30am. Our catechumens will be prepared for baptism through this one-year program. Anyone who wants to learn more or refresh their Byzantine faith is welcome to attend. For the class, download the Ascension app on your phone or computer. See the flyers at the back of the church for more information on the resources you will need.
MYSTAGOGIA: CATECHESIS FOR THE ENLIGHTENED Adult education continues through continual faith formation each Sunday at 1:00pm. Join us for advanced studies in our spiritual life, Liturgy, theology, patristics and more. For the classes, you can purchase The Divine Liturgy: A Commentary in the Light of the Fathers from our bookstore.
