    SAINTS OF THE DAY


27th – Pantaleon or Panteleimon, The Great Martyr and Imperial physician, reckoned with St. Luke, Apostle, Patron of medical men. He suffered death by beheading about A.D. 303, during the reign of Maximian, Emperor. Our Venerable Mother, Authusa, mother of St. John Chrysostom. St. Clement of Ochrid, Wonderworker.


28th – SS. Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon and Parmenas. Apostles and Deacons, four of the Seven Deacons spoken of in Acts 6:5; all having suffered death for Christ. Our Holy Father, Innocentius, Pope of Rome.


29th – St. Callinicus, Martyr at Gangae about A.D. 290. — SS Seraphina, Virgin-Martyr, Theodotia and her Children, of Syrian origin, adopted daughter of St. Sabina, whom she had converted to Christianity at Rome, arrested and beheaded A.D. 122.


30th - SS. Silas, Silvanus, Criscentus, Hepenetus and Andronicus, Apostles. — St. John, soldier-Martyr, endured death in Caesarea of Cappadocia during the reign of Constantine and Galerius. — St. Julitta, Martyr.


31st - St. Eudocimus, Venerable, lived in the reign of Theophilus, the Iconoclast Emperor. 


1st - Procession of the Venerable and Life-giving Cross. Commemoration of the SS. Seven Machabee Brothers, Martyrs, their names being Abim, Antonin, Gurius, Eliazar, Evseon, Alim, Marcell, and their Mother, Solomonia, and their Master, Eleazar, martyred 173 A.D., during the reign of Antiochus, son of Seleucius. 


2nd - Translation of the Holy Relics of St. Stephen, the first Martyr and Archdeacon from Jerusalem to Constantinople during the reign of the Emperor Constantine the Great A.D. 312. St. Stephen, Priest-Martyr, Pope of Rome, and others with him, martyred A.D. 260, during the reign of Valerian and Gallienus, Emperors. Tradition alleges that he was beheaded while seated in his chair before the Altar in the Catacombs.


3rd - Our Venerable Fathers, Isaacius, Dalmatius and Faustus. Isaacius died A.D. 368, in the reign of Valens, Emperor. He had predicted the death of Valens, the Arian, going into battle. This prediction fulfilled, Dalmatius and Faustus died in the reign of Theodosius the Great, Emperor (379-395).

THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make this year’s Mount Carmel Devotions and Celebration very successful! Together we raised $7,282.28.


TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday August 5th with Great Vespers at 5:00pm and Liturgy at 6:00pm and also on Tuesday, August 6th with Festal Matins at 10:00am and Liturgy at 11:00am.


DORMITION OF THE THEOTOKOS Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14th with Great Vespers at 5:00pm and Liturgy at 6:00pm and also on Thursday, August 15th with Festal Matins at 11:00am and Divine Liturgy at 11:00am.


ECF REGISTRATION forms for the 2024-2025 classes must be completed and returned to Mary Albert as soon as possible so books can be ordered for all classes. There are Registration forms in the back of the church. Please see Mary if you have any questions.


2024 EPARCHIAL APPEAL - Each registered family is asked to participate and help us reach our financial goal of $18,505.00 and also our goal of 100% participation. Currently, with 33 families, we have raised $15,400 or 85.32%. There are pledge forms at the back of the church. This year’s appeal runs through August 31, 2024. Thank you!

EDUCATION


CATECHESIS FOR THE CATECHUMENATE is held every Sunday at 8:30am. Our catechumens will be prepared for baptism through this one-year program. Anyone who wants to learn more or refresh their Byzantine faith is welcome to attend. For the class, download the Ascension app on your phone or computer. See the flyers at the back of the church for more information on the resources you will need.


MYSTAGOGIA: CATECHESIS FOR THE ENLIGHTENED Adult education continues through continual faith formation each Sunday at 1:00pm. Join us for advanced studies in our spiritual life, Liturgy, theology, patristics and more. For the classes, you can purchase The Divine Liturgy: A Commentary in the Light of the Fathers from our bookstore.
